At La Casa del Tio Guero, the essence of traditional Mexican cuisine comes alive in every dish. Nestled in the heart of Oaxaca de Juarez, this charming restaurant effortlessly combines flavors, atmosphere, and welcoming service. Customers rave about the tlayudas, heralded as the best in town, featuring savory options like quesillo y tasajo and quesillo y chorizo. The vibrant ambience is matched by staff members who share a genuine warmth, enhancing the dining experience.
Breakfast options are equally impressive, with customer favorites such as the delectable tacos dorados filled with mushrooms and pumpkin flowers. The vegetarian-friendly beans steal the spotlight, making it a paradise for plant-based diners. Each dish is crafted with fresh ingredients, from the light-fried tortillas to the sweet, complex pasillo pepper stuffed with fruit and nuts.
With a diverse menu, La Casa del Tio Guero offers something for everyone while maintaining authentic flavors. The price point is surprising, considering the quality. Diners often express their eagerness to return, echoing a sense of contentment that truly captures the spirit of Oaxacan cuisine.

The food, the service and the restaurant are amazing. The flavour is topical Mexican, the portion is perfect to be satisfied and the ingredient combination is delicious. The food is not spicy, as the hot salsa is served on the side. I totally recommend it, because the staff is warm and friendly, and I'm totally happy to have found this place. La comida es deliciosa, el servicio es excelente y amable, y uno se siente muy comodo y bienvenido. Lo recomiendo mucho, pues estoy muy feliz de haber venido a este restaurante.

Wow! Super cute artsy place with comprehensive breakfast menu. The tacos dorados with mushrooms and pumpkin flower topped with guac were beyond delicious and my husband's huevos rancheros were solid! The beans are vegetarian here which always makes us happy. Luis, our server, was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return.

Best Tlayudas (quesillo y tasajo and quesillo y chorizo) I'v ever had. Service was friendly and they have a cool terrace with a nice view. We went there twice in six days because we liked the food so much.

There is a patio hidden behind the market - we were so happy to visit this restaurant with Oaxaca Eats Food Tour. The fried tortilla in tomato sauce was light and sweet, I loved it and wanna try at home. The pasillo pepper stuffed with fruit and nuts, then topped with cream and pomegranate seeds were amazingly complex and rich.

The three dishes my friend and I ordered were all so tasty—the chicken chile relleno, rolled chicken tacos, and the classic salad. To begin with, the salad was very fresh and the dressing was really nice, tasty yet subtle. The chicken in both the tacos and chile relleno was still moist and tasted great. The relleno had the perfect level of sweetness added to it. The salsa they provide with everything is so, so tasty! It’s a fairly spicy burnt salsa that is just perfect with tacos and relleno (even with some of the salad veggies, honestly). Hard to fault this restaurant, especially with their prices—for three very high-quality and delicious dishes we only paid 365 MXN (20 USD).

Vegetarian tacos were delicious, filled with flavour, two tasty cheeses, and lovely homemade lemonade. Relaxed atmosphere, quirky art work. Comfortable chairs!

This place was quite lovely. I really appreciated all the artesanal decorations and furniture they had in here, it was entertaining to look at the masks on the wall and guess the prices of them. Only downside was that there's only one restroom, and almost everyone from our group needed to go at the end so it just became a line, hehe. The service was very easy to work with and one of the waiters remembered exactly what I ordered, despite the fact that he was serving a group of 13! So I thought that was very impressive. I ordered huevos rancheros with verde sauce and a horchata--I really liked the horchata! The huevos rancheros was pretty decent, I just sometimes forget that I'm not a fan of drenched eggs and tortilla, but otherwise it was good.

We loved our meal here. I had the veggie chilli relleno and it was so delicious. Almost Moroccan in flavour with cinnamon/fruits inside. Wrapped in egg and fried (looks like batter but more like eggy bread). Very different to the usual Mexican flavours. Yum!
